Event description

The St. Louis Artists' Guild is thrilled to bring The Big Draw Festival to St. Louis! The Big Draw is the world's largest celebration of drawing, uniting people through the power of creativity.

This two-day family-friendly event features fun, inspiring drawing activities designed to spark creativity and motivate participants through drawing!

The Big Draw Sidewalk Chalk Competition, held on Oct. 4, invites artists 16 years and older to compete for cash prizes by creating a four-foot by four-foot sidewalk chalk artwork in five hours! The juror, Craig Thomas, is a master artist specializing in fine art, murals, and street painting. Craig has earned national and international recognition and praise for his versatile skills and unique artistic vision. He has traveled extensively, sharing his creativity with diverse audiences worldwide. Mr. Thomas will give a talk about his work and career on Saturday, October 4th, at 1 pm.

The entry fee for the sidewalk chalk competition is $35. Mr. Thomas will award first, second, and third place prizes totaling $600 in cash.

The Big Draw Bingo encourages event attendees to try fun and inspiring drawing activities. For example, Rattle & Sketch invites participants to draw a skeleton on display in the gallery, while Doodle Roulette allows participants to spin a roulette wheel to generate a creative drawing prompt! After completing three activities, participants can enter a raffle for a chance to win prizes.

Additionally, during the event, attendees can learn from master artists in our community who will provide free demonstrations or presentations of their work. Steenz, a STL-based cartoonist, will discuss their career and how they approach drawing cartoons. B.J. Parker, a realist artist in St. Louis, will demonstrate how to draw the figure using the Michelangelo approach. Mel Tychonievich will talk about and demonstrate plein air sketching and maintaining a sketchbook.

All Big Draw Bingo activities are free and open to the public.
