Event description
Drawing has been a core activity for our students in art and design disciplines for over 60 years and we see drawing as one of our areas of strength and expertise. Drawing Week is part of our commitment to celebrating drawing as a key part of creative practice for all students and in the School’s discourse around practice-based learning and research.
Drawing Week gives us the opportunity to embed a more expansive view of what drawing is and what drawing can be: thinking, planning, observing, moving through space, leaving a trace, playing with materials and technologies, a tool for recording, collaborating, communicating, discovering. Drawing can happen in many ways and with many things: on walls, on paper, in virtual space, through fields, on screens, with light, sticks, water, gps trackers, thread and even pencils.
Drawing Week will support the development of students’ creative practices by exploring how they can use drawing, and how drawing can be of use to them. Therefore, all the week’s activities will be based around one of these four themes:
Investigate, Ideate, Experiment and Communicate.
