Event description
Draw and create with the whole family during an afternoon of free art-making sessions at our Downtown Los Angeles gallery, part of the 2025 Big Draw Festival—a global collection of thousands of creative events, activities and workshops, organized by everyone from individuals to organizations, and even entire cities.
Inspired by the exhibition ‘James Jarvaise & Henry Taylor. Sometimes a straight line has to be crooked’ and the 2025 Big Draw Festival theme of ‘Drawn Together,’ this year’s event invites you to create quick, gestural portraits of yourself or those you come with. Using only markers, the emphasis will be on speed, spontaneity and expressive mark-making—hallmarks of Taylor’s approach to drawing. Over the course of the workshop, these portraits will come together to form a community portrait wall, creating a mosaic of individuals drawn together.
This event is free; however, please reserve tickets for each member of your group to secure a spot in one of the day’s drawing sessions.
This may get messy—we advise all participants to wear old clothes. All ages welcome. Younger children are welcome if supervised by adults.
After the workshop, stay for KCRW’s Summer Nights with DJs spinning from 5 – 10 pm in the courtyard. Learn more.
