Big Tartan Draw
Sarah Longley and Cindie Reiter
with Lochcarron Primary School Parent Council
Part of Tartan Week Lochcarron
Lochcarron Village Hall
A big drawing event for children in Lochcarron, and the wider community, with local artists Sarah Longley and Cindie Reiter.
The event
will celebrate weaving and other activites that we associate with the
village. Sarah, who will lead the workshop, has extensive experience
working with communities to create immersive, participant-led art
projects. Cindie (an artist based in Lochcarron), will be helping out too. The session will be fun, experimental and open to everyone.
There will be a chance to design your own tartan using a wide range of vibrant materials including paint sticks, water-soluble pencils, oil pastels and graphite sticks. There will also be an opportunity to work in 3D: sculpting figures from wire and adding tartan costumes.
Sarah's partner Stewart is a kilt-maker and is kindly providing some tartan scraps. Sarah will encourage participants to explore drawing through big movements (in line with the big draw theme of Drawing in Motion), on big sheets, using the idea of weaving lines together to make wonderful patterns. It's hoped that a lasting display will be created for the hall.
