Sketch the Shed with the Edinburgh Sketcher! We’ll be exploring The Engine Shed with sketch books in hand, using ink and watercolour to bring your visit to life. Discover our renovated historic building and improve your sketching skills with renowned illustrator Mark Kirkham, The Edinburgh Sketcher. Limited spaces are available, please telephone to book your place  on 01786 234800. The workshops are suitable for everyone aged 10+, but please note that anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Friendly Facilities: At the Engine Shed, you can explore the stories of the structures all around you from our free to visit centre in central Stirling. Our interactive exhibits, 3D theatre, augmented reality experiences and hands-on activities bring Scotland’s built heritage to life. Spend a day getting to grips with our interactive exhibits and enjoy activities for all ages.

Car and coach parking

We don't have visitor parking at the Engine Shed, but car and coach drivers can use the public car park 350m away for a small charge. More than 20 accessible parking bays are available. There are electric charging points. Additionally, there are two accessible parking spaces offering free parking for Blue Badge holders. These are located to the west of the building, along the road running parallel to the train station.

Approach to site

The Engine Shed is 350m from Forthside car park, along tarmac paths with some raised kerbs.Visitors arriving from Stirling train station will first cross a bridge that has a lift at either end to allow step-free access. The route to the Engine Shed is then about 150m long, on level pavements with dropped kerb crossings.

Visitor centre

The Engine Shed entrance and its interior are on the level. There is an induction loop in the reception area and theatre.

Toilets

There is a fully accessible toilet near to the reception area.

Assistance dogs are welcome:
  • at all Historic Environment Scotland locations
  • within roofed areas
